Welcome to Language Matters

Language Matters is an independent speech and language therapy practice providing speech and language therapy to children, young people and adults living within Newcastle, Northumberland, Sunderland, Durham and surrounding areas.  We provide a professional and friendly service which is focused around meeting your individual communication needs.   Language Matters is run by Sarah Squires, a qualified Speech and Language Therapist, who is experienced in providing advice, assessment and treatment for a range of speech, language and communication difficulties.

We offer appointments at our Ponteland-based clinic, or can arrange to come and see you or your child in your home, your child's school/nursery or your workplace, at a time that's convenient to you. Usually, it is possible to make an appointment to come and see you within 7-10 days of your initial enquiry.

We offer specialist support, advice and therapy in the following areas:

Stammering/dysfluency

Speech sound disorders & language development

Voice therapy and speech work

Difficulties in reading, writing, spelling and dyslexia

We are registered with the Association of Speech and Language Therapists in Independent Practice (ASLTIP), and licensed to practice with The Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) and The Health Professions Council (HPC).

You could be entitled to some free independent speech and language therapy with Language Matters:

Many families find it hard to get access to speech and language therapy for their child through the NHS/Education system.  Charitable organisation, Cerebra, offers a Speech and Language Therapy (SALT) Voucher scheme and will fund up to £500 towards the cost of private speech therapy for eligible children who need it but can't get it.  To find out more about your eligibility for this scheme, you can look on Cerebra's website at www.cerebra.org.uk.

Speech and language therapy is covered by many leading Health Insurance companies, however, you will need to check with your insurance company regarding the amount and type of cover, and provide your membership and authorisation number before or at your initial appointment.
